J.S. Bach ~ Morimur
Partita in D Minor for solo violin by J.S. Bach and Related Chorales

Johann Sebastian BachIt is a well-established that, embedded in J.S. Bach's music, are many highly symbolic gestures. His fascination with numbers resulted in countless numerical references rife with theological and personal significance. It was during his time in Cöthen that his wife Maria Barbara died unexpectedly, leaving him  with a brood of young children. In his grief he composed the D Minor Partita for solo violin. In its famous concluding movement, the Chaconne, are numerous cryptic references to chorales on the theme of death. This performance of the Partita will feature the brilliant Canadian violinist Edwin Huizinga and a quartet of stellar Nota Bene vocalists. Be prepared for a musical experience full of delightful surprises.

Edwin Huizinga, violin

Ellen McAteer, soprano
Daniel Taylor, countertenor
Cory Knight, tenor
Richard Hrytzak, bass
